From the meter to the people using it
The project connected the physical measurement of household electricity with information a customer or utility could inspect. The architecture brought an energy-metering device, communications hardware, and a web application into one prototype.
Its hardware included an ADE7753-based meter, an Arduino, a custom base board, a 16×2 LCD, and GSM and GPS shields. The display made a reading available at the device; the communications path made periodic reporting possible beyond the installation.
A complete measurement-to-service path
The repository describes reporting at configurable intervals and locating installed devices through GPS. Customer consumption history and utility billing were the application context for those readings. The interesting engineering boundary was therefore wider than a sensor interface: measurement, transmission, storage, and presentation all had to agree on what a reading meant.
The demonstration and source archive retain the prototype as it was built. They offer a concrete starting point for examining metering interfaces and device-to-service integration, while reflecting the components and tooling of 2014.
An engineering project, presented publicly
At the first DOST-PCIEERD Electronics Design Competition, the project was presented as “Smart Energy Monitoring and Control System for Residential Application.” The council’s newsletter identifies Gil Michael E. Regalado of team BANGON KALI as the Best Presenter recipient.
The work remained a student prototype. Its scope was an integrated demonstration of measurement, reporting, and control; production metrology and utility deployment were outside that scope.
